Experience on Repression of Somatization Patients. - Phenomenological Approach -

Abstract
The purpose of this study were find out the essence and the meaning of repressive experience of somatization patients and to provide the efficient method of nursing intervention as basic data. Five psychiatry patients at K-University hospital in Daegu agreed to take part in this research. Research data through in-depth interview were collected from July, 2004 to July, 2005 and analyzed with the method of Giorgi(1985) which was one of phenomenological approach. As a result, these 7 central meanings and 14 essential themes on experience on repression of somatization patients were confirmed as follows: 1. The central meaning is agony which is originated from ignorance and alienation, poverty and suffering. sense of loss. 2. The central meaning afraidness which is originated from threat to life, unexpected anxiety. 3. The central meaning is powerlessness which is originated from abandonment and disappointment. 4. The central meaning is grief which is originated from chagrin and anger, suppression. 5. The central meaning is deficiency of love which is originated from loneliness, yearning of mother. 6. The central meaning is unhappy marriage which is originated from married life in the home of husband¡¯s parents and a husband violence. 7. The central meaning is physical anguish which is originated from paralysis sensation and physical response. The findings of this study will be useful in developing theory regarding somatization. This study is based on practical data related to experiences on the somatization and neurotic patients. Finally, this study will provide more nursing intervention because was founded the meaning and essence of the hidden repressive experience and negative feeling of somatization patients . The neurotic somatization women patients were subjected on this study, but I suggest the essence of the repressive experience of a variety of subjects be examined such as children/adolescence, the aged, men, cancer patients, and group according to various occupations.
